The community rallied! Working together we were able to bring the Tennis Courts back into the hands of the city.  A lease was provided to business holder who got the tennis courts for a dollar and then charged people too play tennis on a city owned court. The lease holder and was given full control and maintenance of the courts.   The community came to me sharing their concerns that the courts where not accessible to everyone and limited hours.  This has taken many years, however thanks for some great collaboration I have gotten with the community, we got the city to not renew the lease and now the tennis courts will be free and open to the public without any membership cost. This summer check out Sargent Tennis Courts

The City of Winnipeg will be declaring the Extended Winter Route Parking Ban today (January 11, 2024) Please note that the ban will be in effect at midnight. The ban prohibits parking on designated streets between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m. until further notice.  These streets are marked with either “Winter Route” or “Snow Route” signs.

The ban will be in place until 7 a.m. on Sunday morning- January 14, 2024

We will continue truck plowing main routes, sidewalks, and pathways through the day and will start a grader plow of the same tonight (January 11,2024) at 7 p.m. We will move on to back lanes tomorrow (January 12, 2024) morning.

Progress will start showing on the snow clearing map tomorrow morning. It will be updated twice daily, at 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

An additional note from Winnipeg Transit: Winnipeg Transit is currently experiencing delays on some routes. Residents are reminded to check schedules before heading out.

An important note:

Starting this year, the winter route parking ban will be suspended when a residential parking ban is in effect. This will allow people to park their cars overnight on Winter Routes where not prohibited by unrelated signage.

This change is meant to help improve snow clearing on residential streets by giving motorists more parking options. The winter route ban will be reinstated once residential ban is lifted.

Orange Shirt Day marks the day we honor the children who never returned home from residential schools and for those who survived. The Phrase "Every Child Matters", and the wearing of orange shirts is a reminder of our history of stripping away of culture and freedom that have led to many painful issues and outcomes that impact our indigenous communities today.
